Today in 5th grade we...

- Worked on our writing stamina by continuing our novels. 

- Read a variety of Goosebumps. 

- Learned how to use the formulas for area and volume. 

- Celebrated Andrew's birthday!!

- Explored the similarities and differences between Sparta and Athens. 

- Discovered the different properties of light. 

Homework:
Math - Study chapter 17
Language - Study lesson 28 vocabulary
Social Studies - Complete section 2 of the study guide

Extras:
- Please come to school in your proper uniform for mass. You may bring your own clothes to change into after mass (no PE uniform required).

- Practiced using our 5 senses to describe places and things. 

- Met for our second last book club meeting.

- Learned what light is, how it travels and where on the electromagnetic scale different types of light fall. 

- Practiced for graduation.

- Showed what we picture in our minds while reading our book club novel.

- Discussed the Persian Empire and what lead to the Persian wars.

- Learned how to find the surface area for a 3D figure.

- Worked on our paper mache Greek vases.

Today in 5th grade we...

- Learned how to properly add dialogue to our novels.

- Conducted our book club meetings.

- Learned how to identify nets, and how to draw a net based on the 3D shape we see.

- Explored how sounds travels through different types of matter such as a wall, a desk, a cup of water, and a tunnel of air.

Language - Write 600 - 1200 words for your novel (typed)

Today in 5th grade we...

- Learned how to describe characters with fantastic descriptor words. 

- Worked on typing up our novels. 

- Created a 3D cube, and discovered how to calculate the volume and surface area. 

- Started to explore ancient Greece during the Persian Empire. 

- Explored what sound is, how it is measured, and how it travels through solids, liquids, and gas. 

- Watched gender specific videos about puberty.

Math - Finish interactive math lesson
Science - Finish brain check

Today in 5th grade we...

- Continued reading our book club novel. 

- Reviewed what parts make up an atom and learned what is the atomic theory. 

- Learned how to identify different solid figures, and how to count their faces, vertices, and edges. 

- Started typing up what we have written for our novel so far. 

- Wrote the chapter 8 Social Studies test.  

- Reviewed unit 13 in preparation of our Science test tomorrow.

Science - Brain check #1-3 and unit review (not #21)

Extras:
- Today I sent home the results of the ITBS test for each individual student, as well as a letter outlining the average for Grade 5. Please take a look at it, and if you have any questions on how to read the results, or specific questions about your child's results please do not hesitate to ask me. The 5th graders did great overall!!!

Today in 5th grade we...

- Practiced science exhibition, presented science exhibition to judges, and presented science exhibition to friends and family....SO MUCH SCIENCE EXHIBITION!!!! 

Congratulations to all the students for working hard and completing their first science exhibition research paper. I am so proud of every one of you.
