Today in 5th grade we...

- Painted the hallways and designed house banners in order to brighten the stairs, promote school spirit, engage in campus beautification, build teamwork, and celebrate art. 

- Relaxed after a busy day by watching a movie. 

Homework:
Science - Prepare an outline (due tomorrow)
              - Hand write an opening paragraph (due Wednesday April 6th)

What to bring to the field trip:
- Wear your PE uniform to school
- Easy to carry backpack/bag
- Snacks (healthy NO SUGAR/low salt)
- Water bottle
- Cap
- Sunscreen
- Mosquito spray (apply before and during)
- Personal medicine
- Health Card (give to teacher before departure)
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Pajamas
- Towel
- Two extra changes of clothes (one for Friday and one in case they get wet)
- Extra socks
- Flip flops/sandals
- Reading book (optional)
- Playing cards (optional)
- SMALL board games (optional)
- Spare change for mechanical vehicles (optional)
- Camera (optional)
- Stuffed animal (only one, and optional)
- Cell phone to call mom/dad before bed (optional and the teacher will hold it all day and night)

Today in 5th grade we...

- Discussed what makes a good novel, what our favorite novels are, and what would be difficult about writing your own novel in order to prepare for our novel writing unit.

- Continued reading our book club books, and started planning for our first meeting. 

- Learned how to find the sum of a triangle, and how to classify a triangle two different ways. 

- Made our own sacred text scrolls about the Torah, the Hebrew Bible, and the commentaries. 

- Reviewed what we already know about our solar system, and extended our knowledge of the 8 planets, dwarf plants, comets, asteroids, and meteoroids. 

- Discussed what is needed and the schedule for the next 3 days. 

Homework:
Math - workbook p. 99
Science - Read p. 550 -551 and do p. 553 - 556

Today in 5th grade we...

- Started our book club but getting out new books, met with our group, and started reading the first chapter.

- Learned about the sacred texts that Jews read in order to learn about their religion and the laws they should follow.

- Learned how to label, measure, draw and classify angles.

Homework:
Math - Workbook p. 98
Social Studies - Finish sec. 2 of your study guide.

Today in 5th grade we...

- Finished the rest of our ITBS testing which consisted of Math (a variety of tests), Social Studies, Science, Maps, and References. The students were focused, and persevered. Great job!!!! 

Homework: 
Science - Find at least 5 resources for your exhibition project (at least one book) and record all the source information on the sheets provided. Then take at least 1 page of notes from the sources. 
Social Studies - Finish section 2 - part 1 of your study guide. 

Extra:
- Please bring a protractor for Math class on the first Monday back to school. 

Have a fantastic Spring Break!!! Good luck starting your Science Exhibition Projects!!! Make sure to get outside to play and exercise. Enjoy the warm weather of spring in Kaohsiung :)

Today in 5th grade we...

- Wrote all of the Language ITBS tests which include; vocabulary, reading, spelling capitalization, punctuation, and usage and expression. Everyone worked very hard, and we will have more to do tomorrow which is why I have not assigned any homework. I want to give the students a chance to rest their mind. 

- Learned about how religious Jewish beliefs are the center of Jewish society, and the three different types of Jews; orthodox, conservative, and reform. 

- Watched Leon's presentation about chameleons.

Homework:
Science - Confirm your science exhibition partners and decide on your question. 

Please take some time to go outside and play, relax your mind, go to bed early and eat healthy food so that your brain is rested and ready for our final day of ITBS testing!!!!

Today in 5th grade we...

- Watched the rest of the Language presentations. Great job everyone!!!

- Prepared and cooked quesadillas. 

- Planted new seeds in the community garden. 

- Briefly discussed the science exhibition project. 

Homework:
Social Studies - Finish study guide section 1
Science - Brainstorm 5 research questions, and choose your favorite

Extras:
- Please get a good sleep tonight, and eat a healthy breakfast tomorrow to prepare for ITBS testing. Also remember to bring a soft lead pencil (not mechanical).

Today in 5th grade we...

- Celebrated the stations of the cross.

- Finished learning about the life of Jews and Israelite in ancient time. We then made graphic organizers comparing and contrasting Moses and Abraham, comparing the 3 kinds of Israel, and continued a timeline into the later years of the Hebrews. 

- Watched half of the students present their Language projects.

Social Studies - Study Guide section 1 due Thursday
