Over the break I would like the 5th graders to complete two different pieces of homework.
The first piece homework is the English Workbook homework that I assigned about a month ago. Some students might have started that already, and have been doing a little bit at a time, but others may have waited. If your child hasn't start the homework yet, they should get started on it right away! It is not something that can be done all at the last minute...there is far too much of it.
The other piece of homework I assigned is to read a brand new novel (not one that has been read before, or one they have already started). They should be able to read it from start to finish in the 2 week vacation. They should make sure to know their reading ability and not choose one that is too long and difficult to finish in two weeks. I would recommend that they read it for about 30 minutes every day. At the end of the break they need to leave enough time to write a 2 page (minimum) reading response. This response should begin with a summary of the novel, and followed by some opinions and feelings about the novel. They could talk about how it made them feel, what they learned, how it is connected to their life, how it is connected to another book they've read, how it is connected to their hopes and dreams etc. This response should be typed up and printed out to be handed in when they return from break.
Please feel free to contact me on class dojo, facebook or Line (any type of social media you have access to) if you have any questions, and I will do my best to help out as quick as possible.
