Today in 5th grade we...
- Had our Spanish words spelling test.
- Completed a reading response journal.
- Had a fun filled All Saints Day afternoon celebration, with games, videos, candy, and a parade!!!!!!

- Language: Write a descriptive paragraph about any product (follow the rubric)

- Continued initial conferences during daily 2.
- Wrote our Chapter 8 math test.
- Worked on writing poems about the ancient Egyptians.
- Started a new science unit about ecosystems.
Homework:
Language - Study for spelling test
Social Studies - Finish section 3 of your study guide
Other:
- Sign and fix the mistakes on your math test.
- Sign and fix the mistakes on your science test.
- Finish your All Saints Day costume.
- Make sure to bring your costume to school tomorrow, we will be putting them on after lunch.
- A reminder to parents that they may come to watch the parade at 3:15.
- For those students who didn't bring the form and the money today, please bring it tomorrow as it is the deadline.

- Examined how to best use descriptive language when writing.
- Continued out initial conferences during daily 2, while using our new reading strategies "skip the word and then come back to it", and "practice and read again"
- Completed our unit 4 test on Living Things Grow and Reproduce.
- Started preparing for Language festival.

- I sent home a Field Trip Permission Form today. Please return the signed form, as well as the money to me by Friday October 30th.
- I sent home a paper about individual homework. Please read this over with your child so they know what the expectations are. Hopefully this extra work will help students improve their writing skills.

Today in 5th grade we...
- Learned about foreshadowing, and identified 3 separate times Hatchet used foreshadowing to hint to us about what might happen.
- Continued our initial reading conferences during Daily 2.
- Used stem-and-leaf plots and line plots to draw conclusions and make predictions.
- Pretended we were scribes living in Sumer by creating our own cuneiform tablets.
- Finished our unit on living things growing and reproducing, and then started preparing for our test tomorrow.

Science - Finish the unit 4 review and study for a unit 4 test tomorrow
Extras:
- Minnie, Phoebe, Anne, Leann, Victor, and Andrew have requested to get a flu shot. These will take place tomorrow morning at 10:15.
- Just a reminder that this Friday is All Saints day. Please help your child to complete their costume at home. On this day students will come to school dressed in their uniform, and bring their costumes. We will have time to change into our costumes after lunch (we have 30 minutes to do this). Then there will be a variety of activities taking place until approx 3:15. Parents are invited to arrive at the school at 3:15 so they can watch and take pictures of the students parading their costumes around the school.
- Another reminder is that there will not be school next Monday November 2nd. This day is for teachers to have some professional development time.
